A life as an artist on an apple isle…

“Until 1994, I studied fine arts & design at the University of Tasmania. (That’s the southernmost land mass, the island on the bottom of Australia.)

Many people are unaware that this is where my love of art comes from. I started off in graphic design and drawing, moving later into print-making. Drawing was/is my great skill. As post-modernism was the fad of the day, I taught myself human anatomy – and received a few High Distinctions. (top marks)

My style of working is now in fashion with artists like Tacita Dean (although this is more obvious in other works) and the Leipzig School. Judge for yourself, these are a few of my slides that have been digitized. [Click on the link to see larger versions – the originals were large]

I was influenced t varying times by Larry Rivers, Robert Rauschenberg, Imants Tillers,  Goya, Gustav Klimt, Delacroix, Gericault and Jacques Louis David – as well as pulp fiction, ink art and comic book art.

I don’t still draw that often.

Although I did a self-portait – to be used on my publicity.

Of course, it would be fulfilling to draw or screenprint more again one day.”
